Formerly Victorian Railways N477, it was in service with VR for 8 days (It ran 831 miles – 1,337Kms - in that time) before being sold to SAR. It ran the most miles of all the 750 class engines – a mere 262,593 miles (422,512 Kilometres)

These Garratts were unusual in that they were built by Societe Franco-Belge of Raismes, France in 1953. They were the last steam engines to enter service with the South Australian Railways. Built as oil-burners to 1067mm gauge, they could be converted to 1435mm or 1600mm and fitted with a mechanical stoker and changed to burn coal, but none were.
